Sri Ksheera Ramalingeswara Temple, Palakol (W.G.Dt)

Sri Ksheera Ramalingeswara Temple is located in Palakollu of West Godavari District. The temple is in the town and after reaching Palakollu devotees can go by walk and have darshan. The presiding diety is Ksheera The Shiva Linga at the temple of Ksheera Ramalingeswara Swamy. Maharshi Agastya told Sri Ram that he developed black complexion as he committed a sin in killing Ravana who was a brahmin. To get rid of this Sri Ram was advised to take bath in holy rivers and install Siva Lingas. After installing several Siva Lingas, Sri Rama accompanied by Sita and Lakshmana came to Gosthani river to install a Siva Linga, Sita sent Hanuman to procure it. Hanuman could not return within time and so Sita made a Siva Linga out of the sand consisting of snails and performed pooja. On his return Hanuman was very much dissappointed. Observing the agony, Sri Ram asked Hanuman to place the Linga on the banks of the river and assured Hanuman that devotees who visit the place first worship the Siva Linga brought over by him and next Siva Linga consecrated by Sita. Hanuman felt very happy. According to the legend the linga was installed some 86,000 years back and developed from time to time in 918 A.D., 1415 A.D., 1773 A.D., and 1777 A.D. this temple is one of the Pancharama temples.
